Register for the 2022 JJA JazzBash! (and bid on a stateroom for the Blue Note at Sea 23 jazz cruise)

The Jazz Journalists Association is throwing a #JazzBash, a five-ring online media circus in celebration of 2022 JJA Jazz Awards honorees, on Sunday, Sept 11, 3 to 5:30 pm, ET.

Attendance, which includes interactive possibilities with other participants, is free to JJA members, nominees of the ’22 Awards and Jazz Heroes; tickets are $25 for the general public. Register here! More than 60 artists have rsvp’d participation.

You can also bid in advance on a stateroom for the Blue Note at Sea 23 jazz cruise — send your sealed bit to CruiseBid2022@jazzjournalists.org. Minimum bid is $700 for this $7000 valued stateroom.

The JazzBash, hosted on the extraordinary platform SyncSpace.live, will include live-in-real-time

Awards presentations and music: by Duchess with Anat Cohen sitting in; Deanna Witkowski performing a composition by Mary Lou Williams, Anchorage Jazz Hero Yngvil Vatn Guttu, Chicago Jazz Hero Ernest Dawkin’s quartet, El Paso Jazz Hero Amanda Ekery, and San Diego Jazz Hero Louis Valenzuela’s band. Pre-recorded artists’ messages, an exhibit of photos by career photography awardee Carol Friedman, and previously unviewed videos from past Jazz Awards parties (by Randy Weston, Elio Villafranca, Stephanie Richards, Edmar Castaneda, Min Xioa-Fen, and many others) will be shown. Story-teller Bill Crow, Peter Keepnews, Claire Daly and Mark Ruffin will share stories and jokes. Terri Lyne Carrington, Nicole Mitchell, Jane Ira Bloom, Vijay Iyer, James Brandon Lewis, Melissa Aldana and James Francies are panelists in open discussions moderated by Greg Bryant, Willard Jenkins and Neil Tesser. The program includes many surprises, in multiple immersive, customized settings.

To date, winners Sheila Jordan, Kurt Elling, Joel Ross, James Francies, Johnathan Blake, Gary Smulyan, Wycliff Gordon, Nate Chinen and Ted GIoia are among Awards winners not mentioned above who have rsvp’d they’ll be at the JazzBash.
