Music Media Meet & Greet, Boston

The Jazz Journalists Association and grassroots organization Jazz Boston are throwing a Music Media Meet and Greet party at Darryl’s Corner Bar, 604 Columbus Ave., one block from Mass Ave., South End, this coming Thursday evening (9/22) from 5 to 6:30 pm. The agenda is: Free appetizers, a cash bar, and talk talk talk about music, media, Boston, jazz and other keywords and the occasion is the 11th Berklee Beantown Jazz Festival.

The JJA has more than a dozen members in Massachusetts, including Jazz Awards winning WGBH broadcasters Steve Schwartz and Eric Jackson and Lifetime Achievement in Jazz Journalism honoree Bob Blumenthal. Jazz Boston produced a highly successful satellite party for the 2011 Jazz Awards at Wally’s Café, the jazz club that has long served as a stage and watering hole for Berklee College of Music students, in honor of proprietors Elynor Walcott and her sons. The two organizations are also collaborating to present Howard Mandel, JJA president, at the Jazz Boston booth at the Beantown Jazz fest on Saturday, September 24; besides covering the blocks-long Beantown music-and-exhibitions mass gathering for his blog Jazz Beyond Jazz, Mandel is to address students in JJA member Fred Bouchard’s class at Berklee College of Music on Thursday, Sept. 22.

The “meet and greet” is not a jazz-exclusive event; Jazz Boston, like the JJA, is interested in seeing anyone who’s interested in writing about, broadcasting, photographing, blogging or otherwise presenting music of any/all interesting, lively genres in any/all media. The two organizations agreed that a social hour-and-a-half that gives colleagues an opportunity to network and bounce around ideas informally about how to get news and views about music out audiences, fans, friends, readers, listeners, viewers would be mutually beneficial.

Space at Darryl’s is limited, however, so rsvps are requested, to specialevents@jazzboston.org or call JazzBoston at 617-369-1913.
