JJA @ Jazz Connect conference Jan 14 – 15 2016

A panel on Jazz in Mainstream Media and an open-to-all membership meeting and a reception at a New York City jazz club are the JJA’s activities at the Jazz Connect Conference, being held in New York City Jan 14 and 15.

customLogoHeld at St. Peter’s Church, 619 Lexington Ave. (at 54th St.) in midtown Manhattan during the APAP (Association of Performing Arts Presenters) convention and WinterJazz Fest, Jazz Connect gathers  jazz industry representatives and musicians together for panels, workshops, ask-the-experts tête á tétes and informal schmoozing. JJA members can get a discount on registrations, through January 15, using a special promo code (email President@JazzJournalists.org for the code). At the JJA panel on Jazz in the Mainstream Media,  9:30 to 10:30 on Thurs., Jan 14, writers Will Friedwald (The Wall Street Journal), John Murph (AARP), Natalie Weiner (Billboard/Vice) and Anya Grundmann (executive director of NPR Music, activing vice-president of programming) will discuss what decisions go into featuring coverage of the music in publications and platforms not devoted to it exclusively. JJA president Howard Mandel will moderate. New Orleans-based JJA board member Jennifer Odell will moderate.

Odell will also chair the membership meeting at 12:30 pm on Friday, Jan 15  4:30 pm at St. Peter’s. with assistance from Susan Brink, JJA Development Director. After that meeting, the JJA in conjunction with Jazz Promo Services will host a wine-and-beer reception. Details and invitations to the reception will be sent out shortly. Prior plans for a social reception were abandoned upon learning that NPRMusic is holding a reception for all Jazz Connect conferees on Thursday, starting at 3 pm.
