Confusion reigns, unfortunately, over which Jane was a finalist in the Soprano Saxophonist of the Year category of the 2010 Jazz Awards. Evan Parker was voted the winner of this Award by a significant margin, but both Jane Ira Bloom and Jane Bunnett appear as finalists on lists of the nominees — though only Bloom’s name was listed on the final ballot, voted upon by full professional members of the JJA.
Jane Bunnett, Toronto-based soprano saxophonist and flutist, performed with her ensemble at the 2009 Jazz Awards. While she has been nominated for Soprano Saxophonist of the Year several times, voting has not advanced her to finalists status. Jane Ira Bloom has also been nominated several time and has been a finalist, winning in 2006 and 2008.
