New York, May 24 — Five submissions to the Jazz Journalists Association’s 2010 Jazz Awards “Photo of the Year” category have been elevated to finalist status by voting members of the JJA. European photographers dominate the finalist field. Images of Zim Ngqawana by Dragan Tasic, Eddie Henderson by Gulnara Khamatova, Sonny Rollins by John Watson and Tom Harrell by Lena Adasheva are joined by JJA photo awards organizer John Abbott’s portrait of the late Hank Jones.
Voting for an Awards recipient from among these five finalists has begun for JJA members-in-good-standing at Jazzhouse.org. The entire semi-finalist field of 30 submissions can be viewed at www.JJAJazzAwards.org.
The winner of the JJA Award for Best Photo of the Year 2010 will be announced at the JJA’s Jazz Awards gala at City Winery on June 14. News of all the JJA Jazz Awards winners will be posted here at 5:30 pm EDT on June 14.
