“Working the Beat: Jazz in Today’s Media” is a JJA project starting with a weekly series of video calls — free, open to you whether you’re an up-to-date JJA member or not — starting Tuesday, February 4th from 8:00-9:30 pm EST.
On the call, I’ll introduce a suite of digital tools I’ve set up under the auspices of the Jazz Journalists Association —including Slack and Loomio — can help us work together to support one another’s projects, no matter where we’re based. I’ll walk attendees through the basics of getting set up on the platforms and we’ll brainstorm some initial project ideas. I’m proposing that these calls and these tools could quickly serve as launching pad to support us as we, together, face the unique challenges of 21st century media and covering our music in it..
If you reflexively cringe at the thought of downloading an app or setting up new technology, fear not! I will be there every step of the way to get you set up, and once you’re rolling with it, you may even appreciate being less distracted by social media and not getting lost in long, unnecessarily complicated email chains.
To join the call on Tuesday, February 4, at 8 pm EST, simply click this link. If you haven’t used the Zoom video client before, you’ll be redirected to download it before you join the call. If you have any questions or need help troubleshooting, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me by email: Alex@jazzjournalists.org.
I’m looking forward to launching and sustaining an enlightening, productive conversation.
