JJA Jazz Awards nominees named, voting begun

Bucky Pizzarelli, Charles Lloyd, Chick Corea, Bobby Hutcherson and Henry Threadgill  have been nominated for the JJA’s Lifetime LifetimeAchieveGROUP500x100Achievement in Jazz Award, and Ted Gioia, Ted Panken and Will Friedwald for Lifetime Achievement in Jazz Journalism, topping the ballot for the 20th annual Jazz Awards presented by the Jazz Journalists Association.

Voting on these finalists by the JJA’s professional members has begun, and will end at midnight, May 1. Winners of Jazz Awards for music will be announced on May 15, and winners of Awards for journalism will be announced at the JJA’s Media Party at the Blue Note Jazz Club in Manhattan, 3 pm to 5:30 pm on June 15, where Rio Sakaira, the JJA’s New York City Jazz Hero, will also be presented with her engraved statuette. Honoring excellence in music and its documentation in 41 categories, the JJA’s Jazz Awards finalists nominees present a broad spectrum of talents and activities, including for the first time an Award for “Original Album Art.” Winners of Jazz Awards for music will receive their awards at their’ performances around the U.S. throughout the summer.
