Bobby Sanabria’s Big Band, Tia Fuller’s Quartet, Marc Cary’s Focus Trio, guitarist Rale Micic’s trio and solo pianist Ayako Shirasaki will perform at the JJA’s 2010 Jazz Awards gala, to be held at City Winery (155 Varick St.) in New York City, doors opening at 3:30 pm on Monday, June 14. Terrance McKnight, host of Q2 on WQXR, is the JJA’s guest MC.

The gala program is scheduled so that announcement of all Awards for jazz musicians, presenters and journalists, and introduction of “A Team” nominees and the new “Jazz Hero” honorees, will take place immediately after Ayako Shirasaki’s introductory performance; Brother Thelonious Belgian Ale, wine from City Winery’s own reserve, sodas and water will be served. At 5 p.m. a buffet reception commences, along with the musical performances.
The public is invited to purchase tickets to the entire Jazz Awards gala for $150, but may also opt to attend only the reception, for $75. JJA members may buy up to two tickets to the entire gala for $75; nominees for Jazz Awards are invited for no charge as guests of the JJA, and they may purchase one ticket for a companion at the members’ discount rate.
