Four months of the JJA online training programs — including four information-packed workshops on blogs, from start to profit and five webinar panel discussions with jazz journalism veterans and newcomers talking about blogs, writing biographies, covering jazz festivals and jazz journalism now — have been archived online.
All archived programs are accessible to JJA members for free. The panel discussions, moderated by JJA president Howard Mandel, are also free to the public; the blogging workshops, created by JJA media director Jo Ann Kawell and requiring registration to access (only registrants receive links to login), while free to JJA members cost non-members $15 each or $50 for the series of four.
The JJA’s online programs will resume in January, with a panel discussion on “Interviewing Difficult Subjects” (panelists TBA) and a workshop on advanced social media skills. The online programs from August through December included slide-shows, demonstrations of panelists’ own websites and live interaction with audiences of 20 to 80 attendees who could pose questions spontaneously by typing into a text box. These programs’ outreach is international; JJA members from New Zealand as well as New York, California, Washington DC, etc. were on hand. Topics for spring 2013 programs will include a focus on widely dispersed local media, how to convene a JJA social meetup and preparation/celebration of International Jazz Day (April 30, 2013).
