Redwood, NY — Cadence magazine, the independent quarterly journal of improvised music, has created a new (and still under contruction) website, http://www.cadencemagazine.com. With a blog by founder-publisher-editor Bob Rusch, a free sample issue, back issue displays and a music order-form connected to its distribution arm and North Country Audio business, Cadence joins Down Beat, Jazz Times, Jazziz, the Wire, Jazzwise and Straight No Chaser as jazz-involved magazines in English enhancing their hard-copy issues with a web presence.
Cadence was established as a monthly magazine in 1976, with an open editorial policy that has resulted in publication of unusually long interviews and all-encompassing recording reviews. It became a quarterly in 2007. The publication does not include advertisements, and has long focused its sights on lesser known artists and the avant-garde. The website includes direct links to the catalogs of Cadence Records and CIMP Records, as well as the Cadence warehouse of more than 34,000 titles available for purchase.
Cadence principal Rusch, self-described as “a practicing dyslexic,” writes in his first blog posting on the new site that although his correspondents know he has long written without punctuation, he will amend this practice in his postings as “my compromise to facilitate communication.” Cadence has long been a valued and distinctive voice among music publications and the JJA wishes it well in its new endeavor.
