JJA Awards season starts — Jazz Heroes on 4/15!

The Jazz Journalists Association has announced the schedule for its spring 2024 Jazz Heroes and Jazz Awards campaigns. Thirty-three “activists, advocates, altruists, aiders and abettors of jazz” in 29 locales

Locations of 2024 JJA Jazz Heroes. Details to be announced April 15

will be celebrated with personality profiles and portraits at JJAJazzAwards.org, followed by in-person presentations to the Heroes by members of the communities from which they’ve emerged.

The class of 33 Jazz Heroes represent the diversity of Americans united in loving this music — as featured in a collage of their faces, formatted for social media distribution. The 2024 Jazz Heroes live in equally singular locales across the U.S., from New York to New Orleans, Detroit to Hilton Head Island, Brattleboro to Austin, Ottawa, Canada and for the first time in the bi-national borderland of Baja California and San Diego.

The JJA’s Jazz Heroes are the first Awards winners of the organization’s 29th season of honors for excellence in jazz music, advocacy and journalism. Finalists for JJA’s 2024 Jazz Awards, considered in some 40 categories of activity, will be posted for publication on April 23. Voting by active members of the JJA, the organization of authors, writers, photographers, broadcasters, videographers and new media professionals covering jazz and adjacent musics, will then start. Winners of the 2024 JJA Jazz Awards will be announced on May 8.
