JazzWeek’s 2021 recordings master list

How many jazz albums were released in 2021? 749, according to the annual master list prepared

by Jazzweek, which compiles weekly reports from independent radio producers nationwide.

In its spreadsheet that starts with Greg Abate’s Magic Dance: The Music of Kenny Barron (Whaling City Sound) and ends with Lori Zuroff’s self-produced Ladybug, JazzWeek is clearly not complete (no releases mentioned from ACT, Delmark Records, ESP, Intakt and International Anthem, among other labels), yet without any other list serves as a handy reference.

Other JazzWeek news: the organization headed by JJA member Ed Trefzger has opened registration for its 2022 Virtual Summit, featuring “multiple simultaneous sessions and tracks – for radio programmers, station management, fundraising and development, radio promotion, and digital servicing – plus informative sessions for musicians looking to get their music on the radio.” Sessions will be recorded for later access by registrants.
