Talking Jazz 2: What should arts journalists know?
Thurs Oct 10 8pm EDT
VIEW THE RECORDING BELOW
Arts journalists need all the skills and knowledge that journalists working any other beat need– plus more. In this online discussion, our panelists talk about what’s being taught in academic courses for emerging arts journalists and what journalists need to know to cover the arts in real-life jobs. If you are a would-be arts journalist or media maker, a journalist who wants to do more arts reporting or who wants to rev up your current reporting, or you are simply interested in arts journalism and want to know what it takes, this panel is for you. You’ll be able to watch live on this page (via Google Hangouts on Air) and post your own comments and questions for the panelists.
- Jordi Oliveres, producer of tv news spots for Univision in Miami, who graduated from Columbia Journalism School last year, after getting his bachelor’s at Berklee School of Music (he’s a guitarist)
- Douglas McLennan, founder of ArtsJournal.com, Associate Director of the USC Arts Journalism Program at Annenberg School for Communications and Journalism
- Johanna Keller, director of the Goldring Arts Journalism Program, Syracuse University
