David R. Adler has accepted a position as adjunct lecturer in jazz history at the Aaron Copland School of Music, Queens College.

Russ Davis covered the Montreal Jazz Festival, producing two complete shows for Voice of America, and has also produced various special programs for his online radio channel for Modern Jazz MOJA Radio, http://www.mojaradio.com). Russ has also written a blog covering the festival, posted on the MOJA Radio WordPress page: http://www.mojaradio.wordpress.com.

Laurence Donohue-Greene and Andrey Henkin, AllAboutJazz-New York’s Managing Editor and Editorial Director/Production Manager respectively, have announced the publication’s formal separation from the AllAboutJazz.com website after an eight-year-plus affiliation. As of the monthly gazette’s 99th issue (July 2010), AAJ-NY is now a completely separate entity with a new website: http://aaj-ny.com.

James Hale is now programming the Jazz Masters channel for the Galaxie Continuous Music Service, which is available throughout North America and Europe via satellite, digital cable and IPTV.

Marcia Hillman will be covering the Litchfield Jazz Festival at Kent, Connecticut, August 6-8, 2010 for AllAboutJazz.com.

Antje Huebner started her own company, hubtone PR, in late 2009. With its strong focus on jazz, hubtone PR offers public relations, marketing, media and event planning and a bridging service designed for European companies, organizations and individuals seeking to do music-related business in the U.S. Currently, Antje is planning press campaigns for the label’s new releases by Kenny Werner and Conrad Herwig. http://www.hubtonepr.com.

Thomas Jacobsen has started a new website, http://www.neworleansnotes.com, which will be devoted to jazz news from New Orleans. It will be something of a continuation of his column of the same name that ran for many years in the (now defunct) monthly Mississippi Rag. Thomas’s book, Traditional New Orleans Jazz: Conversations with the Men Who Make the Music, is tentatively scheduled for publication by the Louisiana State University Press next February.

Cicily Janus published her book The New Face of Jazz through Random House/Crown/Billboard Books. Signings are taking place throughout various parts of the U.S., and numerous TV, blog and radio appearances are also scheduled. Cicily also signed a contract with Elwin Street Productions to co-author the Le Snob Guide to Jazz from the Le Snob guidebook series. This is due out next year throughout Europe, Asia and elsewhere. Cicily has also signed with Diane Schuur and Maria Cole (widow of Nat “King” Cole) to continue work on book projects involving their lives.

Howard Mandel published features about Henry Threadgill, Darcy James Argue and the recording reunion of Keith Jarrett-Charlie Haden in Down Beat’s July and August issues. He also wrote liner notes for albums by the Leon Gurvitch Project (El Dorado) and the Imani Winds (Terra Incognito). In addition, Howard presented his book Miles Ornette Cecil: Jazz Beyond Jazz to student attendees of the Siena Jazz Workshop, in his first visit to Italy since 1972.

Ron Sweetman celebrated 34 years on air with his program “In A Mellow Tone” on May 5. You’ll find program schedules and playlists at: http://www.inamellowtone.com. Ron also wrote about the recent Ottawa International Jazz Festival for La Scena Musicale (Montreal).

John R. Tumpak appeared on Horace Heidt, Jr.’ s “America Swings” radio show on July 10 and 17 to discuss the careers of Ella Fitzgerald and Artie Shaw.
