David R. Adler has accepted a position as adjunct lecturer in jazz history at the Aaron Copland School of Music, Queens College.

Laurence Donohue-Greene and Andrey Henkin, AllAboutJazz-New York’s Managing Editor and Editorial Director/Production Manager respectively, have announced the publication’s formal separation from the AllAboutJazz.com website after an eight-year-plus affiliation. As of the monthly gazette’s 99th issue (July 2010), AAJ-NY is now a completely separate entity with a new website: http://aaj-ny.com.
James Hale is now programming the Jazz Masters channel for the Galaxie Continuous Music Service, which is available throughout North America and Europe via satellite, digital cable and IPTV.

Thomas Jacobsen has started a new website, http://www.neworleansnotes.com, which will be devoted to jazz news from New Orleans. It will be something of a continuation of his column of the same name that ran for many years in the (now defunct) monthly Mississippi Rag. Thomas’s book, Traditional New Orleans Jazz: Conversations with the Men Who Make the Music, is tentatively scheduled for publication by the Louisiana State University Press next February.
Cicily Janus published her book The New Face of Jazz through Random House/Crown/Billboard Books. Signings are taking place throughout various parts of the U.S., and numerous TV, blog and radio appearances are also scheduled. Cicily also signed a contract with Elwin Street Productions to co-author the Le Snob Guide to Jazz from the Le Snob guidebook series. This is due out next year throughout Europe, Asia and elsewhere. Cicily has also signed with Diane Schuur and Maria Cole (widow of Nat “King” Cole) to continue work on book projects involving their lives.
Howard Mandel published features about Henry Threadgill, Darcy James Argue and the recording reunion of Keith Jarrett-Charlie Haden in Down Beat’s July and August issues. He also wrote liner notes for albums by the Leon Gurvitch Project (El Dorado) and the Imani Winds (Terra Incognito). In addition, Howard presented his book Miles Ornette Cecil: Jazz Beyond Jazz to student attendees of the Siena Jazz Workshop, in his first visit to Italy since 1972.
