Steve Braunginn, producer/host of the podcast Strictly Jazz Sounds, interviewed archival producer and Resonance Records co-president Zev Feldman. The podcast was published in March just in time for Record Store Day when the new legacy recordings became available at select record stores.
Enid Farber’s spring came in like a lion after the winter broken foot blues that kept her sequestered as if it was 2020 all over again! Three events featuring her work—in London, New York, and New Jersey—took place in April. Her photo of Paquito D’Rivera made the cover of the New York Jazz Record’s April issue and her photos continue to appear in Women in Jazz Media Magazine.

Doug Hall has recently contributed another long-form artist profile for WICN public radio, focusing on the career of the “Father of South African Jazz,” trumpeter and civil rights activist Hugh Masekela. He also just attended a performance by legendary jazz fusion guitarist Mike Stern with his current touring quintet and is developing a podcast interview with the artist, who will be touring Asia this summer.
Patrick Hinely’s writings are cited several times, and six of his photographs appear, in Brian Shaw and Nick Smart’s new book, Song for Someone: The Musical Life of Kenny Wheeler, published by Equinox, among them the debut-in-print of a full-band group shot from 1996’s Angel Song recording sessions, comprising Bill Frisell, Lee Konitz, Wheeler, and Dave Holland.
C. Andrew Hovan penned liner notes for several recently released albums, including Jim Snidero’s Bird Feathers (Savant) and Altin Sencalar’s Unleashed (Posi-Tone). His notes also appear on the recent vinyl reissue of John Hart’s Resonance (SteepleChase). For SteepleChase, Hovan has also written notes for upcoming releases from Paul Bollenback and Rich Perry. Willard Jenkins has been named the Library of Congress Jazz Scholar for the 2024-2025 season of Concerts from the Library of Congress. As part of his residency, he will conduct in-depth research on the Library’s jazz collections. He will present his discoveries in lecture on June 18 at 6:30pm.
Sanford Josephson interviewed vocalist/pianist Michael Feinstein and vocalist Shayna Steele in the April issue of Jersey Jazz Magazine. On Saturday, April 26, he will be making a presentation, “A Look at Black History Through Jazz” at the Vaux Hall branch of the Union County (NJ) Public Library.
Howard Mandel wrote liner notes for pianist Antonio Faraó’s solo album Kind of . . ., promotional matter for Dave Bryant and Jamaaladeen Tacuma on tour of the Northwest, reviews of Sultan Stevenson’s El Roi, Benjie Porecki’s All That Matters and Joe Magnarelli’s Concord for DownBeat, and a couple non-jazz short stories. He talked Chicago jazz with author Stuart Dybek at a Chicago Writers Association conference, was interviewed by Live from the Heartland radio’s Michael James about the JJA and The Jazz Omnibus, hosted the JJA’s Jazz Zoom 2025!, edited the Jazz Heroes and Jazz Awards pages, and heard a lot of music live, including Scott Joplin’s Treemonisha, the International Chamber Ensemble and the Grossman Ensemble in two different concerts play two compositions by George Lewis, and an all-star Chicago-New Orleans ensemble in tribute to the late Mars Williams, performing his work The Devil’s Whistle.
