Members updates, Aug-Sept ’22

August and early September have developed into summer’s jazz climax in the US and abroad, with

festivals galore attracting jazz journalists-at-work as well as fans at their pleasure. JJA members of course are on the front lines, as told below.

New members are Scott Penn, Brooklyn-based radio and tv program host/producer; Bob Festa, a photographer in Andover, MA, and James Eli Whitney, who works with the WolfDen Music and Nature Retreat, which offers retreats in the mountains of southern New Mexico for immersion in jazz and nature, particularly for jazz elders, older musicians and serious young aspirants. Kenneth K. Martinez Burgmaier of Makawao, Hawaii — best known as producer, film maker and videographer of the Maui Jazz and Blues Festival and Big Island Jazz and Blues Festival — rejoins after a long absence.
