The Journal of Jazz Studies (JJS), the peer-reviewed, open-access journal published online by the Institute of Jazz Studies at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking translations of jazz articles written in languages other than English, so as to introduce important jazz scholarship to the English-speaking world.
Articles from any country and any era are eligible but must be approved by JJA editors Evan Spring (to whom all proposals should be sent: evanspring@gmail.com), Dan Morgenstern, Ed Berger, Henry Martin (and, if necessary, by peer review) before the translation is undertaken, so that translators can be assured of publication.
No translations have yet been slated for publication, and no funds are available from JJA for paying translators, though published translations will carry due credit. Volunteer translators are urged to contact Spring with information on their languages. Articles may be suggested even by people who cannot serve as translators.
Formerly the print journal Annual Review of Jazz Studies, the Journal of Jazz Studies is an open-access online journal which intends to be “a forum for the ever-expanding range and depth of jazz scholarship, from technical analyses to oral history to bibliography to cultural interpretation.” Published twice annually (fall and spring), its first online issue is the current one: Vol. 7, No. 1 (Spring 2011).
