Jazz journalists celebrated the end of the old year and launched into the new with publications and projects full of promise, fighting winter and virus gloom. Glad to say the music’s keeping our ears open and spirits high!
We welcome as a new member Baltimore-based freelancer Jordannah Elizabeth, who writes on a broad range of topics, with special interest in the intersections of race, gender and music criticism. She was a panelist with JJA board members Paul de Barros and Andy Gilbert, associate member Ann Braithwaite, pianist Lafayette Gilchrist, Henry Wong of Baltimore’s An die Musik and Seattle Times news editor Melissa Davis in the Zoom discussion Reviewing ‘Live’ in the Age of Covid. JJA members Mirian Arbalejo, Pamela Espeland, Ron Scott and Jim Wilke also spoke up on the call.
