JJA at 2017 Jazz Connect Conference, WinterJazz Fest

“Basics of Jazz Journalism” is the title of the JJA’s panel discussion/workshop at the fifth annual Jazz Connect customlogoconference, to be held from 2 pm to 3 pm, Thursday, January 5, 2017, in the York Theatre (Lower Level II) of St. Peter’s Church, 619 Lexington Avenue (at 54th St.) in New York City.

 Media, Emmy-winning documentary filmmaker (most recently directing Night Bird Song: The Thomas Chapin Story) will talk about what emerging music journalists and musicians seeking coverage need to know to keep news and views of jazz alive in contemporary media. JJA President Howard Mandel will serve as moderator.

A discount on advance pre-registration for the two-day conference (9 am to 5 pm, Jan 5 and 6) organized by JazzTimes magazine and the Jazz Forward Coalition, is available through December 15.  The only profession-wide convention for jazz artists, presenters, producers, managers, agents and journalists, this year’s Jazz Connect conference theme is “The Family of Jazz,” with a focus on efforts to enlarge the jazz audience. Maria Schneider will give a keynote presentation, and Christian McBride is to receive the conference’s Bruce Lundvall Visionary Award, presented by George Wein.
