Marcia Hocker has two Women’s History Month specials for her show Jazz Lives! on April 13 and 27, featuring their contributions in Jazz, blues and Latin grooves. She is the emcee, curator and one of six vocalists for the upcoming 17th Annual Billie Holiday Tribute. She was interviewed and performed one song on CBS television affiliate KOIN about this event. She was also appointed VP on the Montavilla Jazz Festival Board.
Chuck Koton has continued as “house photographer” to enjoy Friday night performances at The World Stage, including multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Georgia Ann Muldrow and vocalist Maxayn Lewis. Also, keyboardist Mark de Clive-Lowe who, on this occasion, eschewed his usual synthesizers and electronics and focused on piano and straight-ahead jazz. Drummer and jazz educator Michael Stephans re-released his wonderful recording, Om Shalom on Dot Time Records, using one of Koton’s landscape photographs as his cover art.
Howard Mandel has been working on the JJA anthology of members’ writings and photos 2004-2024, on the 2024 Jazz Heroes campaign, the Jazz Awards survey, The Buzz Author’s Series, and Seeing Jazz Music Photography Master Classes. He wrote a Substack about Anselm Keifer-Wim Wenders and hubris.
