December 17 — Leading jazz critic Nate Chinen (The New York Times, JazzTimes) has convened four fellow critics for a lively and opinionated roundtable discussion at his blog The Gig. In addition to JJA member Chinen and JJA News editor David R. Adler, the roundtable features Chris Barton (Los Angeles Times), Jennifer Odell (Down Beat) and Shaun Brady (Philadelphia Daily News, Philadelphia City Paper) in a nationwide blogfest and rumination on the year now ending.
Go here for Nate’s leadoff entry in the discussion, and follow the links at top for responses from the other four writers.
This exchange at The Gig demonstrates the viability of online avenues for imaginative, high-level discussion of jazz music and jazz journalism, and the centrality of JJA members in fostering that type of discussion. Tune in, and for further discussion of jazz and media, be sure to register for the JJA’s “New Media for New Jazz” conference in New York, January 7-11, 2011.
