Andy Gilbert, a noted Bay Area freelance writer, has accepted a seat on the Jazz Journalists Association’s board of directors.
Frequently published by the San Jose Mercury News, SF Chronicle, JazzTimes and Berkeleyside.com, among other publications, Andy describes himself as “mostly a newspaper guy.” He has admired the JJA’s expansions into new media, but concedes he has not yet acclimated to the digital revolution as much as might be beneficial, and soon necessary.
Andy is the JJA first board member from the Bay Area. For the past three years he has been a key coordinator of the local committee nominating and celebrating the JJA’s Bay Area Jazz Heroes. The board which he joins is the governing body determining the JJA’s overall direction, also comprising Robin Lloyd (Seattle), Carolyn McClair (New York and Newport), Jennifer O’Dell (New Orleans), Don Palmer (Baltimore), Neil Tesser (Chicago) and JJA president Howard Mandel (Chicago).
