Hello fellow jazz writers,
I am writing to share some good news! WBGO, 88.3 FM in Newark, New Jersey, has recently created a new staff position, Digital Content Editor, which I have been hired to fill. Part of my new job description is to develop services at the WBGO website that can serve our listeners and jazz fans across the world. One of the keys to making this possible is to engage the talent, passion and keen eyes and ears of jazz journalists.
The first small step that we are taking to this end is the creation of a small, simple forum in which we can share information online.
Starting this month, the WBGO Twitter account (@wbgo) will be sharing posts across the “Jazz Internet” with its followers, appended with the hashtag #jazzlinks. Simply follow @wbgo on Twitter to access the stream. The reason for the hashtag, however, is so that you can easily suggest links to us by adding it to any links or posts that you can point us to. I will consistently watch the hashtag throughout the day (simply type “#jazzlinks” into your Twitter search bar to do the same) and retweet any good ones, as well as post them to our Facebook page.
(For the Twitter-averse, you can also post links to WBGO’s Facebook wall.)
Between Facebook and Twitter, WBGO has nearly 10,000 followers. Once this gets up and running, the #jazzlinks stream will have a permanent home at the WBGO website, www.wbgo.org, as well.
The longer-term goal behind this project is to find new ways to tap the energy and skills of the distributed network of jazz writers in a way that serves the broad, global community of jazz musicians and fans everywhere.
I look forward to working with many of you as WBGO expands its online infrastructure.
With utmost jazzfulness,
-Alex
