Online journalism, feature writing and reviewing and a look at the development of the UK jazz and music press are topics of sessions for emerging jazz journalists at the 8th annual presentation of The Write Stuff, an eight-session professional development initiative to be held during the London Jazz Festival, November 12 and 13, 17 through 21 at the Southbank Centre. Deadline for applications, limited to those 18-years-and-older, is September 6.

Jazzwise magazine editor/publisher Jon Newey, writer/broadcaster Kevin LeGendre and Mike Flynn (also of Time Out) are among the journalists and industry figures who will interact with a class of up ‘n’ comers selected from applicants of diverse age, background and experience who submit a 300-word gig review, a CV and a paragraph explaining “what you hope to gain” from participation in daytime and evening meetings as well as attendance at the LJF’s concerts (headliners this year include Herbie Hancock, Sonny Rollins, Esperanza Spalding, The Bad Plus, Charles Lloyd, Juliette Greco, the Creole Choir of Cuba, Trinity Jazz Choir with Norma Winstone, the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra playing Rhapsody in Blue, Soweto Kinch, Polar Bear, Courtney Pine, Andy Shepherd, Cleo Laine, and many more). The Write Stuff’s writers’ work will be published at Jazzwisemagazine.com and on the LJF website, and one review will be chosen to be published in a subsequent print edition of Jazzwise.
